Lilian Farahani is an internationally sought-after Dutch-Iranian soprano, renowned for her versatility, acting talent, and ability to fully embody her characters. Her expressive performances and captivating stage presence have earned her widespread acclaim.<\/p>

The season of 2026\/2027 will include concert work and opera roles, such as the role of Barbarian Girl in Philip Glass\u2019 opera \u2018Waiting for the Barbarians\u2019 at the Dutch National Touring Company and an elaborate tour through the Netherlands in the title role of the operetta \u2018Frau Luna\u2019 (Paul Lincke) with Opera Zuid.<\/p>

In the previous season, she covered the role of The Bride in ‘Innocence’, the last opera by Kaija Saariaho, at the Metropolitan Opera, a role that she previously sang at the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence, the Royal Opera House in London, Dutch National Opera and at San Francisco Opera. Furthermore, during the 2025\/26 season, she also sang Musetta in \u2018La boh\u00e8me\u2019 with the Op\u00e9ra National de Lorraine in Nancy and in Caen.<\/p>

Lilian has sung on the major Dutch stages with companies such as Dutch National Opera, Opera Zuid and Dutch Touring Opera, but also in the opera houses of Nancy, Bern, Essen, the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence and the International Maifestspiele Wiesbaden. Her repertoire includes Mozart roles such as Pamina (\u2018Zauberfl\u00f6te\u2019), Despina (\u2018Cos\u00ec fan tutte\u2019), Zerlina (\u2018Don Giovanni\u2019) and Susanna (\u2018Le nozze di Figaro\u2019). But also Gretel (\u2018H\u00e4nsel und Gretel\u2019), Carolina (\u2018Il matrimonio segreto\u2019), Drusilla\/Fortuna (‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’) and Frasquita (\u2018Carmen\u2019).<\/p>

Lilian has worked with stage directors such as Simon McBurney, Lotte de Beer, Laurent Pelly, Monique Wagemakers, Simon Stone and Ted Huffman, with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Rapha\u00ebl Pichon, Antony Hermus, Ed Spanjaard, Patrick Fournillier, Kenneth Montgomery, Antonello Manacorda, Sacha Goetzel and Susanna M\u00e4lkki, with orchestras like the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, The Hague Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Ensemble Pygmalion, London Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Essener Philharmoniker, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and members of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>

Besides opera, operette and the classical repertoire of Lieder, Lilian feels at home singing contemporary works. Besides Saariaho\u2019s \u2018Innocence\u2019, she sang leading roles in \u2018Anne and Zef\u2019 by Monique Kr\u00fcs, ‘Death Knocks\u2019 (Christian Jost) and \u2018The infernal comedy\u2019 by Michael Sturminger with the Dutch National Theater. In the spring of 2019, her debut CD \u2018Woman – the making of\u2026\u2019 with works of Jake Heggie, was released, along with pianist Maurice Lammerts van Bueren. In her second CD, \u2018Nomad\u2019 (2024), Lilian performs Persian Folk Songs by the contemporary Iranian composer Reza Vali.<\/p>
