Soprano Lilian Farahani performs in opera, Lied, oratorio and musical theater. She strives for theatrical expression in music and has a great affinity for acting.

Dutch-Iranian soprano Lilian Farahani (1990) studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (bachelor cum laude with distinction ‘for the great talent as a singer and as a stage performer’) and at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, graduating cum laude from the Dutch National Opera Academy in 2015. She received her first singing lessons from Marjan Kuiper and continued her studies with Sasja Hunnego at the conservatories; currently she is coached by Ira Siff and Hans Pieter Herman. She participated in master classes with Margreet Honig, Miranda van Kralingen, Dany Zonewa, Lynne Dawson, Dennis O'Neill and Raúl Giménez.

During the season 2018/2019, she will sing the role of Papagena in ‘Die Zauberflöte’ at the Dutch National Opera, in the direction of Simon McBurney. She was part of the same production at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Last season, she was a member of the soloist ensemble at the Konzert Theater Bern, singing the roles of Pamina in ‘Die Zauberflöte’, Kitty in ‘Anna Karenina’ by Jenő Hubay, Mrs. Gobineau in ‘The Medium’ by Menotti and Frascati in ‘Carmen’. Recently, she also performed the role of Carolina in ‘Il matrimonio segreto’ at l’Opéra National de Lorraine, Nancy; earlier, she sang the same role in a co-production of Dutch National Opera, Dutch National Touring Opera and Opera Zuid.

Among others, Lilian performed the roles of Despina in Mozart's ‘Così fan tutte’, Zerlina in ‘Don Giovanni’, Susanna and Barbarina in ‘Le nozze di Figaro’, Luise in 'Die stumme Serenade' by Korngold, and Morgana in Händel’s ‘Alcina’. She sang in productions of Opera Zuid, Holland Opera, Dutch National Touring Opera and Dutch National Opera. She worked with stage directors such as Lotte de Beer, Monique Wagemakers, Laurent Pelly and Cordula Däuper, with conductors such as Antony Hermus, Ed Spanjaard, Patrick Fournillier, Kenneth Montgomery and Sacha Goetzel, and with The Hague Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and members of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

Besides opera, operette and the classical repertoire of Lieder, Lilian feels at home singing contemporary works. She sang the role of Anne Frank in the opera ‘Anne and Zef’ by Monique Krüs, directed by Corina van Eijk (world premiere), the Dutch premieres of the opera ‘Death Knocks’ (Christian Jost) in the role of Death, and of the cycle 'Eve Song’ (Jake Heggie) along with accompanist Maurice Lammerts van Bueren. With the Dutch National Theater, she performed in ‘The infernal comedy’ by Michael Sturminger, directed by Theu Boermans.

Since March 2017, Lilian is represented by IMG Artists, Paris.
